"The existence of strong music and fine arts curricula are important to keeping the humanities truly humanizing and liberal arts education truly liberating." ~Former President Ronald Reagan

The arts promote tolerance and individuality, bolster self-confidence, and improve problem-solving skills and academic performance. In the Walnut Creek School District, we are fortunate to have the support of WCEF and PTAs to bring art instruction into the schools.

Students in TK through fifth grades at Murwood receive 45 minutes of visual art instruction once a week. The arts program emphasizes a hands-on approach to learning and creating, enhanced by art history, art criticism and aesthetic valuing. Students study various artists, mediums, styles and cultures while having fun expressing individual creativity. Lessons are designed to meet objectives outlined in the California State Content Standards for Visual Arts.
