• Grading

Grades are available for viewing through the school's online portal. Students are responsible for knowing and understanding their grades. If you have questions, make time to ask me! Be aware that absent and late work is not updated as soon as regular assignments, so may appear missing for the time being.

Here are a few tips about reading the grade page:
    1. Every so often I may write some notes next to a grade - this helps all of us remember information about particular assignments.
    2. A blank red space means I do not have the assignment and it's been graded. This is because you did not do it, or you were absent.
    3. If a space is blank and it is NOT red...it hasn't been grade and its not penalizing you. I'll get to it soon!

    Weighted grading:

           Summative assignments: 60% of grade
           - unit finals
           - unit projects
           - any work assessed to check for mastery

           Formative assignments: 40% of grade
           - preparation and participation in class activities
           - quizzes that check for understanding
           - homework completion
           - classwork completion
           - any work that is practice towards mastery

    Grading codes you may see:

CC = completion credit - work is done for practice and assessed for completion and correction, not mastery (calculated as 100%)
PC = partial credit - practice work was not completed or corrected (calculated as 70%)
LATE = means what is says...assignment was turned in late! (Late work is calculated as 60%)
NA or EX = not applicable or excused- a student is excused from the assignment (not counted against a grade)
RD = redo - student has been asked to redo an assignment for better understanding, learning, or quality. (Calculated as an F until student turns it back in. When the redone assignment comes in the RD is replaced with the improved grade)
NC = no credit - work was not done on time and there isn't a possibility of turning it in late.

    Rubric scores:
Mastery = writing reflects excellence and thoroughness (calculated as 100%)
Proficiency = writing reflects good progress towards 8th grade expectations and addresses all parts of assignment (calulated as 85%)
Developing = writing is approaching 8th grade standards; some parts need practice or are missing (calculated as 75%)
Struggling = writing is off topic or significantly below grade level (calculated as 65%)

    I also use a mix of points and the typical A, B, C, D and F grades. F is calculated as 40%.
