Principal's Message

Welcome to Walnut Heights!

We are excited to welcome your child to the 2019-20 school year!

School starts Wednesday, August 14 at 8:55 am for all students, which is our typical Wednesday schedule.

Students do not need to bring any supplies. We recommend a backpack, snack and sturdy tennis shoes. Students may bring lunch from home or purchase from the cafeteria. It is helpful if your child is able to open the packages that hold his/her lunch items. (Have 2 minutes for a laugh? See here.)

This year there are many opportunities for student leadership! I am seeking 4th & 5th grade students for Safety Patrol every morning of the week. 3rd graders have a unique opportunity to be part of our "Kinder Squad" and help TK and K students find their way in the lunch room, open packages, and otherwise get settled. Is your child earth-conscious? Join our Wastebusters team! Interested in Student Council? 4th & 5th graders, stay tuned!

We welcome new teachers, staff, and families this year. We invite you to get involved!

We continue our academic focus this year on implementing readers' and writers' workshop and the Bridges Math Curriculum. Thinking about the 'whole child,' we are also focusing on Social-emotional learning. The district has invested in many WCSD teachers with training from Responsive Classroom this summer, and will continue throughout the year. You will hear about this as students experience daily morning meetings. We will be showing off our practices throughout the year - stay tuned!

Look for our regular, Wednesday email, the eNews.

My door is (almost) always open, and we can't wait to greet you and your kids!

Here's to a great year!

Warmly,

Amy Romem
