    Why The Arts?

    Teaching through the arts help students experience concepts rather than simply discussing or reading about them. This approach is consistent with educational theories that highlight the importance of reaching multiple learning styles or intelligences.

    The arts teach students to make good decisions.

    That a problem can have more than one solution.

    That the arts celebrate multiple perspectives of the world.

    Problem solving allows students to anticipate the unaccepted possibilities.

    The arts allow unlimited cognition.

    The arts teach students that small differences can have large effects.

    They teach students to think through and within the material.

    The arts help students learn to communicate through imagery and voice.

    The arts enable us to feel.

    The arts can show students community spirit.

    The arts allow students to be individual.

    The arts allow students to be creative and imaginative.

    The arts help students to demonstrate self-expression.  

    The arts develop visual aptitude (perception of color, tone, composition, size, etc.);

    The arts develop physical acuity (drawing, hand–eye coordination, etc.).

    The arts develop powers of description and analysis.

    The arts extend cultural awareness (icons, practices, symbols);

    The arts teach the benefits of planning and executing projects.

    The Arts help students improve kids' overall academic performance.

     

    The Arts develop skills needed by the 21st century workforce: critical thinking, creative problem solving, effective communication, teamwork and more.

     

    The Arts teach children to be more tolerant and open.

     

    Allow children to express themselves creatively and bolster their self-confidence.

     

    The Arts keep students engaged in school and are less likely to drop out.
