• City of Walnut Creek and the Walnut Creek School District

    Athletic Fields:

The City of Walnut Creek maintains the athletic fields of all six schools. Over the course of a year, these fields receive significant use through soccer and Little League.

    Police Department:

The Walnut Creek Police Department provides The Awareness Program (formerly the DARE program) for the elementary schools and assigns specific officers as school liaisons. These school liaisons have been a tremendous asset to Walnut Creek Intermediate School on a variety of issues. Whether it’s truancy, emergency preparedness or educational, it is evident that the police have made schools a priority.

Athletics at Walnut Creek Intermediate School:

The City staff runs the entire program including organizing the leagues, taking care of finding the coaches, and arranging for the referees.

    Counseling Services:

The City supports counseling services for grades K-8 with matching funds in the amount of $40,000. Walnut Creek Intermediate School receives $20,000 to support a crisis intervention counselor and the elementary schools receive $20,000 that the District matches to provide counseling for students and parents at the elementary school level.

    Summer School:

For many years, the City has used the Walnut Creek Intermediate School facility to provide enrichment summer school. For the past several years, this very successful program has coexisted with the District’s summer school for at-risk students. There are a number of students who take one class at the District summer school and then take a class with Civic Arts.

    Civic Arts Grants:

Civic Arts and the District are partners with several grants from the state. The focus of the grants is to bring artists into the schools and align their presentations with the curriculum. For example, it could be musical instruments of a specific period or dance. The program operates at the elementary and middle schools.
