First Grade Sharing Guidelines
Sharing is an integral part of our Language Arts curriculum, as it provides an important opportunity for children to learn to speak in front of a group. Our sharing program is organized into topics to guide students in selecting what to share.
Students will share twice a month. Each child will be assigned to either Group A or Group B, and a particular sharing day of the week. If your child is absent or if we have a holiday on his/her assigned day, sharing can be done later in the week.
Attached is the sharing schedule for the year. The sharing group and assignment for the week will be listed in the weekly Homework Schedule, as well.
The monthly sharing topics are listed below:
What’s in the Bag?- Students conceal an item in a bag to share. During sharing, they give clues describing the item (written on the form provided in that week’s homework packet) to help the class guess what's in the bag. Science items such as a leaf, acorn, feather, shell, etc. are great options.
Book Sharing-I will provide a book report form for you this week.
Special Assignments- I will send home a brief description of this project the week it is due (or earlier). Other homework will consist of only the nightly reading requirement when we have projects.
The help you provide your first grader in preparing and practicing for sharing will make this early exposure to public speaking a positive experience. Thank you in advance for your support.
