Principal's Spring Message - Milissa Banister

Welcome back from Spring Break Indian Valley!  We have had a wonderful year so far and it is amazing to think we are down to  just 9 more weeks left of school. We have a lot to be excited about and some fun things coming up soon as well.
    • Our school auction was a big success with many, many thousands of dollars being brought in for our school - I am hearing close to $50K!
    • We are enjoying having Soul Shoppe on campus to help teach us tools for managing conflict and being a positive person at IV.
    • 4th and 5th grade basketball tournament is underway! May the best team be victorious!
    • Fun Assemblies - Including the Wild Things Animals coming in May
    • More Music at Lunch! I will be bringing out the sound system more often now that we have less rainy days so we can enjoy dancing/singing.
    • Picnic Tables are coming to the shade structure! That means more opportunities for students to have a place to sit at recess. Maybe we can get a board game group going.
    • End of Year Picnic will be lots of fun this year - we have food trucks and activities coming.  We also a have a DJ lined up too!
In addition to all the wonderful things listed above, we have 9 packed weeks of academics so that students are prepared for entering the next grade in August. We pride ourselves in offering interactive opportunities for students and we emphasize students being able to engage in collaborative conversations with one another. Our students in grades 3-5 will take part in the California Common Core Standards Test  - CASSPP testing is computer adaptive and is done over multiple sessions. Our students are being exposed to the testing format so they are familiarized before testing begins. The testing window is April 24 - May 20.

This is my inaugural year as principal at Indian Valley and I am continually impressed and proud to be a part of such an active and dedicated community. My door is always open to share more about what Indian Valley has to offer, listen to ideas, facilitate concerns/solutions, and work together to make our school an even better place to come to school.

    Sincerely,
    Milissa Banister
