• Welcome to Third Grade

I am originally from Cincinnati, OH. I received my BA in Art History from Wright State University in Dayton, OH. I was active in the art community and worked at the Dayton Art Institute on the curatorial staff. I was also the team captain of the sailing team.

In 1988 I moved to San Francisco and became an art dealer at a gallery in Showplace Square. I also worked part time teaching sailing on The Bay. I was eventually hired as the full time director of the Spinnaker Sailing School on Pier 40. I earned my USCG 100 Ton masters license and sailed charters aboard the 78' Brigantine Rendezvous. During my tenure at Spinnaker, I designed outreach programs for inner city youth, corporate team building events, and maritime education programs for 4th grade elementary students. I also developed an adaptive sailing program where men and women with disabilities could earn nationally recognized certification.

Through my experience working with kids on boats, I realized that I wanted to be an educator in the public school system. I earned my teaching credential through San Francisco State University in the Clinical Schools Program. It was an intensive program in partnership with the San Francisco Unified School District to train teachers to work in challenging schools.

I moved to the East Bay to be with my future wife and began teaching at Parkmead in 1995. I currently live in Pleasant Hill with my wife and two children.

I feel very fortunate to be a part of the Parkmead community and look forward to getting to know you.
