    Teacher:  History and Cartooning

    Biography, Education and Career:

I attended California State University, Chico and received a bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies.  In my fifth year I earned a Multiple Subject Credential with supplements in Social Studies and Language Arts.

I taught for three years in Fairfield, California at Dover Middle School.  At Dover I taught 7th and 8th grade History and Cartooning.  I was also Student Activities Director.  The staff elected me Teacher of the Year my final year teaching there.

Before coming to Walnut Creek,  I spent a year teaching in Japan. I worked as an Assistant Language teacher and worked with students in 7th, 8th and 9th grades as they learned to speak English.

In 1999 I returned to the United States and was hired at WCI.  I have taught 7th grade Core,  8th grade History, English Language Development and Cartooning.

I have also worked with the California History Project at U.C. Berkeley as a presenter and teacher coach. Most recently I was a teacher coach at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco.  In addition to working at U.C. Berkeley, I have presented at the Bay Area Writing Project's Saturday Seminar series; at the U.C. Davis History Summit; and at two conferences of the California Council of Social Studies.

In 2010 I was awarded Teacher of the Year here at WCI and at the district level as well.  It is my honor to work as a teacher and I thank the community for its support.
