Hola a todos mis estudiantes--
I am a 18 year veteran middle school Spanish teacher with 11 years under my belt
at WCI.I left for two years, and decided that I missed the students, community, friends,
and fantastic families here at WCI, so I am back.
I am married and have 2 kids, Rowan (11), and Reid (9), and live in Alameda.
We love to camp, travel, do water sports (paddleboarding, fishing, kayaking, rafting),
and play/watch baseball! Most memorable travel experiences for me have been: living
in Bogota, Colombia for a year and a half after high school, visiting Guatemala to visit
an exhange student who lived with mein high school a few years later, traveling and
studying in Costa Rica (I received a fellowshipto study there in 2004), and taking
20 WCI Spanish and Teens Around the World students to Nicaragua in 2014.
As far as teaching goes, I believe that comprehensible input is the key to
learning/acquiring a new language. I try to stay in the Target Language as much
as possible in class. Students need to hear the langauge as much as possible
to be able to start using it themselves. Listening comprehension is the first step to
learning a language, so my goal is to get them understanding the spoken Spanish
first and then we'll focus on speaking more and more as the year progresses.
I am excited for this year, and hope your kids will enjoy learning
Spanish this year.
Saludos--
Sra. Verde
