    WHAT'S GOING ON?
     
     
    • Students will receive a copy of the method book Technic Today for use in the classroom and at home. Students will be responsible for the care of this book and will return it at the end of the school year
    • STUDENTS SHOULD BE REVIEWING SCALES AND PRACTICING LONG TONES!! 
    • The method book Rhythmic Harmonic Etudes will be used in class and left in class
    • Reinforcing proper breath support, rehearsal etiquette and tone production
    • Have you bought your ID tag for your instrument case yet? $2.00 in the music room.

    • Students will receive a copy of the method book I Recommend for classroom and home practice. Students will be responsible for the care of this book and will return it at the end of the school year
    • Students will also be using the method book Harmonized Rhythmic Etudes for class use only
    • Reinforcing proper breath support, rehearsal etiquette and tone production
    • SCALES, SCALES, SCALES and SCALE PATTERNS

    REMINDERS
    • Students should drop off their instruments in the Music Room at the beginning of the day (walk through the room while jazz band is in session) and leave them until the end of the day.
    • The room is open at the end of the day until at least 3:30 for students to pick up their instruments.
    • I'm not allowed to ask for donations as per ditrict policy; however I will always accept a donation if you send it in: checks made out to WCI Music
    • Students using school instruments MUST return the signed release form BEFORE bringing home an instrument.
    • Students are required to have ID tags on their instrument cases, ASAP. You can purchase one from me for $2.00 that goes directly into our music department fund, or use one of your own.

    Students always have extra credit opportunity:
    1. Attend a live concert of any nature, and write a one page essay detailing this event. Include either a program or ticket stub from the event. Be sure to turn this in within 2 weeks of having attended the event!
    2. Practice extra time beyond the 2 hour required weekly practice time. Extra credit is awarded in 30 minute increments (up to 2 hours max).
    3. Extra Credit up to 10 points for participation in outside performance and/or recitals. Bring me the program within 2 weeks of having performed.

    • 20% Practice Records
    • 20% Citizenship
    • 20% Cooperative Class Participation
    • 20% Performance Participation / Attendance
    • 20% Homework, quizzes, in class assignments

    What should be practiced at home now?
    1. Good posture and proper breathing.
    2. Scales from Section 2 insert.
    3. Long tones.
    4. A consistent routine of setting up instrument, and practicing in a quiet place free of distraction.
    5. Chorales & Etudes from method book, and scales from Section 2.
    6. sheet music
    Students should be "logging" their practice time on the calendar portion of their student planner (120 minutes is required for the 20 points a week: every 30 minutes practiced earns 5 points).  Parents can verify that this practicing took place by either:
    • Signing the planner the evening before a record is due, or
    • On the morning it is due, or
    • initial every day practicing takes place.
