Course Descriptions:
Beginning Drama
Students will be introduced to basic acting through learning about the history of the theatre starting from the 6th century with Greek Theatre. We will explore the centuries through the eyes of the Greeks, Romans, Italians, Japan, Shakespeare and all the way up to today's modern plays. Some of the exploration will be through musical theatre, chorus, ensemble pieces, scene work, movement, voice, and improvisation.
Requested Donation: $30/year.
Advanced Drama
Advanced drama students will continue their drama education with monologue work, auditioning techniques, and playwriting. They will have the chance to be involved in both a Fall and Spring production. Advanced student also compete at the Northern California Middle School Theatre Festival against middle schools throughout Nothern California.
Prerequisite: Beginning Drama and admittance through audition and teacher selection (8th graders only).
Requested Donation: $40/year.
Technical Theatre
Students will learn the five elements of stage design through hands-on projects. The students will learn about color theory, sound design, set/prop design, costume design, and make-up design. They will then have the opportunity of putting together all they learned in these seperate units and design the advanced drama class's fall and spring productions. They will also get to run the behind scenes elements of the productions on tech crew.
