Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Karen Worthington

Mrs. Worthington graduated from the University of Kentucky (go Wildcats!) with a degree in communications and moved to California with her husband, Bob, in 1990.  She worked in San Francisco for two years, but decided there was no way to have that an ad agency career and have children.  So...back to school she went to get her multiple subject teaching credential at Cal State East Bay.  She taught in the Mt. Diablo School District before becoming a mom to:  Jacob, age 22, who is serving in the US Navy in Pearl Harbor, Oahu and Megan, age 19, who is a sophomore at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

While being an active stay-home mom for the next 13 years, Mrs. W. stayed volunteered at the kids' schools (including WCI) and at John Muir Hospital's Auxiliary.  However, she was itching to get back into the classroom and began subbing at Walnut Heights Elementary School.  Mrs. W. was excited to be hired for the following school year, and taught both 4th and 5th grades for seven awesome years with a fantastic staff, students, and parents.  When the opportunity became available, Mrs. W. was ready for the chance to try something new -- teaching 6th grade!

Now, an empty nester, Mrs. Worthington can be seen hiking frequently in the Open Space, riding road bikes, heading to Taekwondo (she's a red belt), planning a fun meal or event for family or friends, and enjoying her new 1 year old rescue lab, Cooper or 8 year old tabby, Luchi.  She loves to travel, use her creativity to the fullest, and constantly work on being a teacher that students love having!

Mrs. Worthington looks forward to meeting all of the 6th grade students and their families this year!  Go Squires!!!!
