Walnut Heights has been designated a "Wastebusters" school since the
2004-2005 school year. To achieve this status, we have become very conscious of how our actions affect the environment and have implemented a many-pronged recycling effort.

There are blue recycling bins throughout the school. These are for recycling paper of all types, plus cans and bottles. No food items or paper items with food on them may be put in these containers.

Several teachers are composting food waste at school.  Students in the lunch room separate compostables, recyclables, and trash.  Compostables are collected both from the lunch room and in individual classrooms and taken to composting bins in the school garden.

In addition to recycling, we take very seriously REDUCING the amount of trash we generate. Most of our school news is sent home to parents electronically through the "Electronolope", or electronic Wednesday envelope, and our weekly e-newsette.
