    Buena Vista
School serves the northwest residential section of the Walnut Creek School District and includes the downtown and business sections of the city. The school, opened in 1951, serves a population of about 469 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Buena Vista enjoys a school population that reflects the diversity seen in California today. Of our students, 61% are white, 12% Hispanic, 15% Asian and Filipino and 3% African American. (Note: many of our students are from mixed ethnic backgrounds and in some cases the above designations have been arbitrarily made.) Twenty percent of our students speak English as a second language: 11% have Spanish as their primary language, while 18% speak a variety of other languages. Buena Vista is also home to students from a broad range of socioeconomic situations.
