• The All About Me Book Project

Explanation of Project: Students will be creating a photo journal set in the present to share with their classmates and have as a memory of this time in their life. Throughout this project students will take pictures, organize their book, write sentences to explain the pictures and finally give an oral presentation of their book.

During their photography week, students will take pictures of important people, things and events in their daily life. Students must include pictures of the following: self-portrait, family members, any pets, favorite activities and or hobbies. You may also want to include: pictures of where you live, favorite things (stuffed animals, toys, treasures, collections, books, and foods), other special people, and school related people or activities, and important places. They will be able to take as many pictures as they like, but will need to narrow down the final picture choices by deleting all but their favorite 20. We ask that parents be responsible for deleting the pictures in consultation with your child.

During the book making week the students will have one week to create their book. Students will put one picture per page. They will then write at least 2 describing sentences to go with each picture. These sentences should include what the picture is and why it is important to the student. They may also include other interesting information. Students will make choices as to how they organize their pictures and the writing to go with it. It is recommended that your child do a rough draft of their sentences and proofread before copying neatly into their final book. They also need to design cover art and include a title, full name and date of completion. The first page should be the author’s page. It should include their self-portrait as well as at least two sentences describing themselves.

Presentation: After the book is published they will bring it to class on their due date and orally present their book to the class. They may read their book to the class, but please make sure your student has practiced several times, using fluency, and expression before presenting.

Project Timeline: At the beginning of their assigned week, each student will bring home a hardbound book along with another set of directions. They will have one week to take pictures, deleting all but their favorite 20 pictures. The students will then have one week to create their book. During this week they are excused from the regular homework packet. Please contact your child’s teacher if you need extra time to complete the project. We are flexible with the scheduled due dates.
