• I am pleased to be a member of the Buena Vista Elementary faculty.  I have been a teacher for thirty years.  During these years I have taught at the secondary level and all elementary grade levels.  I joined the BV faculty 20 years ago, and have taught kindergarten since that time.  I am also the Reading Recovery Teacher Leader for the Walnut Creek School District, and am responsible for the initial training and ongoing professional development of Reading Recovery teachers.  In 2002 I was certified as an Early Childhood Generalist by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.  I was certified again in 2012.

For the last eleven years I have shared teaching responsibilities with Mrs. Lisa Hare in order to have time to work with Reading Recovery teachers and students.  However, on my Reading Recovery days I almost always find time to at least walk through our room and greet our students.

My professional interests include early literacy, student motivation, technology and early childhood, and inquiry based education, and guided reading instruction.  I am particularly interested in the dialogs that students have among themselves and with teachers when engaged in inquiry based learning.  I am also interested in the professional conversations of teachers as they observe and analyze student learning

I believe that I am fortunate to have the opportunity to spend almost each day of work in the company of the children of the Walnut Creek School District and especially the children of Buena Vista Elementary.   Everyday I feel honored to teach and learn from my students and colleagues.
