I decided to become a teacher to inspire children to explore the fields of science and engineering.  When I was a senior in high school, a group of women engineers came to visit my physics class.  By the end of their presentation, I knew I wanted try out the field of engineering for myself.  Before I had met them, I never even thought of engineering as a career choice and even after choosing this field I quickly came to realize how little the adults in my life knew about this field.  After I applied and got accepted, I was lucky enough to build a good support system in college and in my career to be successful.  I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering and then went on to receive a Masters of Science in Biomedical Engineering both from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.  I then became a quality engineer for cardiovascular medical devices.  I worked in manufacturing, dealt with customer complaints, and collaborated with the FDA for the medical devices used in open heart surgery. After 8 years in the professional world, I took some time off to have children, and during my break I decided that it was my turn to inspire others.  I hope to make science and engineering exciting and fun for the students so that perhaps they will choose these fields for themselves one day.
