  • BIG IDEAS MATH

    BIG IDEAS MATH

ADVISORY ABOUT ACCESS TO MATERIALS! I have discovered that you can access the text book but not all the materials. The instructions in the homework packet are accurate for access to free on line resources. Not all materials available to the teachers can be accessed at home.

PLEASE DO NOT WORRY IF YOUR CHILD CANNOT ACCESS DYNAMIC CLASSROOM. I will show that in class.

Thank you for your patience as we learn more about this new series!

    NICE HOMEWORK PACKETS! 9-14-16

    I was "wowed"!
Your students did a fabulous job on the first homework packet. The MATH packet went home yesterday. You will notice that we are reviewing rounding and decimals. We are now beginning work in our text books as well,.
This is a pilot series and I am working the bugs out as far as access. I included a parent guide in the homework packet and will continue to trouble shoot problems as they arise.
    Thank you for your patience.

  • HOMEWORK PACKET NUMBER ONE!!!

    HOMEWORK PACKET NUMBER ONE!!!

A Science packet went home today. We reviewed it in class. It is due on Tuesday the 13th. Students were asked to set up a study plan with their families this week to ensure that they allow enough time.

The packet should take about 2 hours to complete. If your child in taking longer see if they are stalled on a concept. We reviewed all assignments in class and started the Growth Mindset summary and practiced "mind mapping" or using graphic organizers to organize and summarize our thinking.

We set up our science journals today and completed our first assignment in the journal. Your student should have lots of ideas about what scientist do.

Tomorrow we will finish our math assessment and introductory activity on graphs. We will begin our work in the textbook on Friday. PLEASE log on to www.Bigideasmath.com and select California edition. You can then go to free parent resources. Let me know if you have any issues getting on.

    Here's to tomorrow!
    Nancy

  • So Nice to Meet You

    So Nice to Meet You

What a pleasure to meet you at BTSN!

I have yet to read through all of your generous offers to assist this year, however, hope to do so soon. Once organized, I will be in touch!

I am having a wonderful time with your students and I truly hope that they are enjoying their 6th grade experience so far. Some of our highlights include:

An outdoor observation of trees, bushes and a square foot of grass/soil. In addition to acting like scientists we long time missing basketball in the bushes and got it back to it's owner. You can support your students continued science learning by talking to them about what scientists do and how they do it. We know that anyone of any background can become a scientist and that they are much more diverse than the crazy haired old men in lab coats mixing chemicals in test tubes. Wer will spend the next few sessions learning about scientific and engineering practices and the difference between a law and a theory.

THE FIRST HOMEWORK PACKET WILL GO HOME ON TUESDAY (9/5) AND BE DUE THE FOLLOWING TUESDAY (9/12). It will include a note taking/writing assignment on Growth Mindset (a review from work done last week) and some background building activities for our upcoming unit on the very important role that the sun plays in providing the Earth with energy and influencing our climate.

We will finish our beginning of the year math assessment this week and students will have feedback as to areas of both strength and challenge. Some of our students have participated with their 7th grade math buddies and begun number talks and problem solving skills. We should begin work in our textbooks by the end of the week. I will keep you posted. Meanwhile, feel free to go to BigIdeas.com and look for free parent reources in the California edition.

Our Robotics students enjoyed activities strengthening their team building skills and participated in a "paper cup" challenge. It was great fun. We will be starting a unit this week.

    MORE TO COME
