• Some Common Questions about the Library:

What happens if my child forgets to bring her books back on time?     Everyone forgets sometimes. Have your child bring her books in as soon as she can. Next day is great! However, she won't be able to check out another book until she brings back her overdues.

When can my child return his library books?     As soon as he finishes them! The library is open before and after school, and during morning and lunch recess. There is a book return slot right inside the door.

How long can my child keep her books?     Kindergartners and first graders check out their books for one week. Grades 2-5 have a two week check out period.

How can I tell when my child's books are due?     Check the "Date Due" slip inside the front cover of the book. The last date stamped is the date that the book is due.

What if my child isn't done with his book when it's due?     He can renew it until he finishes.

My child lost a book!! We've looked everywhere! What do we do??     School library books belong to all of us at Walnut Heights, so we have to be extra careful with them. However, accidents happen. We love honest students who admit their mistakes. I have found over the years that "lost" library books are rarely lost forever.. just misplaced. If you and your child are fairly certain that the book is truly lost, call us and we will transfer the book out of your child's account into the "Lost Books" account. Your child will receive a short but earnest speech about responsibility, and as long as their account is in good standing (ie; no prior unpaid fines), they will be able to check books out again. You will be expected to pay for the book if it hasn't turned up in good condition within a reasonable period of time. All lost and damaged book fines must be paid by the end of the school year, or your child's report card will be held.Current district costs for book replacement are $20 and up for hardcovers and $10 and up for paperbacks.Damaged book fines are assessed on a book by book basis, based on the amount of damage done and whether the book is still usable.
